Welcome to Gray & New Gloucester!

Gray Village statueLocated halfway between Maine’s two largest metropolitan areas, Portland and Lewiston/Auburn, the Gray New Gloucester region has tremendous economic growth potential. The area also boasts its location as the gateway to many of Maine’s most popular tourism destinations.

In a proactive effort to see the region maximize its economic potential, a group of local businessmen and women have founded the Gray-New Gloucester Development Corporation. THE GNGDC mission includes:

  1. To encourage economic growth and development in Gray and New Gloucester
  2. To mentor and educate new and or young businesses in Gray and New Gloucester
  3. To promote the commercial development Gray and New Gloucester.
  4. To research, and potentially facilitate the procurement, purchase, rehabilitation, resale, release, or other disposal of such buildings, sites, structures or other elements within Gray and New Gloucester that are of economic development value.
  5. To hold meetings and other activities for the education and the provision of information to the public.
  6. To cooperate with and assist individuals, groups, governmental bodies, officials and employees of governments to carry out the purposes of the Corporation and to cooperate with other economic development agencies, philanthropic organizations or individuals who are interested the purposes of the Corporation.
  7. To solicit and accept endowments, grants, contributions, and donations of money, real property or other property for the above purposes.

The GNGDC, unlike the Gray New Gloucester Business Association, will be a Board driven entity . While the GNGBA and area Chambers of Commerce promote business among their membership, and encourage patronage of those businesses, the GNGDC will provide a conduit between the municipalities, the school district, local businesses and landowners, and potential developers to facilitate additional economic development for the region. Although the GNGDC will work through fund-raising and grant writing to employ a full time executive director in the long term, its immediate plans include the development of a marketing information portfolio for the Gray and New Gloucester region. Currently the Directors are meeting with stakeholders in the community to develop a mutually beneficial action plan for the appropriate growth and economic development for the region.

Recent News: The GNGDC has been awarded a $1000 grant from the Androscoggin Bank’s ABCommunity program.  Androscoggin Bank awards these grants to groups that support community activities focused on the arts, education, environment, health, social services or animal welfare, and community developments that help the environment, health or neighborhoods.
